there's no tax to pay on any printed material here in UK.
postage wouldn't be too much, as it's fairly lightweight.
I think the exchange rates about 1.25/1 just now
so that'd be around 50 dollars all in, maybe
this might be a photocopy, or might be n.o.s. original, I don't know.

I contacted Schiff European today to purchase a parts manual for my
'67 SV. They said they were all sold old and that they had no
intention of reprinting them. I then contacted an outfit in England.
I was quoted a price of 90 pounds (well over $135 @ $1.50 exchange
rate), including shipping!!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might obtain a copy in
the States? Of course I would never ask anyone to violate copyright
laws, but if someone wished to offset the cost of purchasing their
manual...........
Any help would be much appreciated, I took my car apart and took bad
photos, so I need help.

An Alpine parts book (originally used by Rootes dealers for ordering parts.)
with exploded diagrams for every part and body structure is available from
Berkshire Apline Center (England) for 24 pounds. I have a copy and it is very

Dear list,
I bought the Roots "Light Car Range" manual for cars with 1725 engines
I was disappointed to find essentially nothing useful on body repairs,
and it is difficult or impossible to figure what does and does not apply
to the Alpine.
I gather there never was a manual specifically for the Series V. Is there
any other manual specifically for earlier Alpines, as opposed to a generic
Rootes light car manual, that would have useful info on Alpine body work
and running gear?
I would think there would be a good deal of overlap if there was a manual
real bummer to pry off something that seems stuck, thus destroying it,
only to find there was a hidden bolt holding it.

the Sunbeam Tiger. This is a very useful book with exploded diagrams of all
the parts in a Tiger. His phone and FAX number is 617-631-8051 (MA) Maybe

I am also assembling a list of Rootes Service bulletins for the Tiger/Alpine.

I own an Alpine Series V which I bought new in 1967. The owner's handbook provides a procedure on the adjustment of the Stromberg 150 CD carburettors. If it is of interest to you I can put my fingers to work and transmit. Please advise.
I also have a book titled, " Tuning Your British Sports Car", by Charles Williams, published by Drake Publishers, New York, 1972, ISBN 87749-165-8. It has several chapters that address the tuning and testing of various types carburettor found on British cars. You may find it helpful. I will not volunteer to excercise my fingers to transmit the information contained therein.

Haynes publishes the "Zenith Stromberg CD Carbs Owner's Workshop
Manual". Everyone who has Z-S carbs on their car should have this
book. One place you can get it is Classic Motorbooks, 1-800-826-6600.

I ordered an Alpine parts manual from Schiff and received it
yesterday. It covers Series I through V. A bit pricey at $65 plus
shipping, but as soon as I opened it I knew it was worth it. This
document will be invaluable as I put my car back together.
After I finish all the Workshop Manual stuff on the web site, I hope
to put this parts manual up there too.

In the July/August Grassroots Motorsports magazine, in an article
titled Out of the barn:
There is a short poop on looking for cheap racing cars.
The article is as follows.
You dont see many Sunbeams Alpines anymore. They didnt make
nearely
as many of these as the more popular MGs and Triunphs. The Alpine,
introduced in
1960, was a very nicely made, rugged little car. Unfortunately, the
complex welded
on fenders and rust trapping x-frame design have caused most of these
cars to rust
away. They were heavy at 2300 lbs, but performance increased in the last
of these
cars as they were equipped with the 1.7 liter engines. Production
tapered off in
1967, and chrysler decided to kill the car when it took over the Alpines
builder, Rootes,
at that time.
The Alpine is a better street car than a race car. Honestly, it
was probably
a more solid, better made car than contemporary MGs and Triumphs.

No connection - just happened to see their advert in a classics mag. I don't
have an Alpine but my son's mother wants one - she's had enough of our '67
Ford 105E Anglia. Alpines were always a bit of a hairdresser's car over here
back in the sixties/seventies but I always liked them. My cars over the years
Ford Anglia 100E, Ford Anglia 105E (four), '64 MGB roadster, Cortina II 1600E,
Mk 1 Ford Capri.
Unfortunately I now drive a Fiat Tempra!! although there's a custom 105E in
the garage with no roof and much lower and wider than Henry intended!

Well, After a little digging through the very large stack of receipts
(Yikes!) I found the receipt for the parts manual. It is a reprint

In June of 1994 I paid $62 dollars for it. A godsend when your car is
in a million pats in boxes with no labels ( I love a challenge !)

The following information will serve to explain the types of literature
shown on the enclosed list.
SHEET: a sheet as specified on this list is a single sheet that can be
printed on one side or both sides and is usually about 8 1/2 x 11 in size
although size can vary.
FOLDER: unfolds like a road map. It can unfold once or several times and the
size can vary up to a large poster size.
CATALOG: has pages and staples in it and opens like a book. The number of
pages will vary. If the overall size is unusually large or small, it will be
specified as large or small. If this is not specified, it can be assumed to be of
average size. The word "Prestige" is used to describe a more lavish catalog, the
largest one issued for the year.
A folder or a catalog will show at least some, if not all, of the following:
beautiful illustrations of all models if full line, or close up views, features,
options, accessories, engines, colors and complete specifications.
ACCESSORY CATALOG: this will thoroughly describe and illustrate all
accessories for the model or year.
PAINT CHIPS FOLDER: will accurately depict the colors available for the
model year.
FACTORY PHOTO: all measure 8" x 10". Many of the photographs have the press
release sheets attached. These are noted by (S). The press release sheets include
a description of the individual model and its features. Please note that many
photographs are listed for limited production automobiles that do not appear in
factory sales literature. Again - (S) = photo with press release sheets attached.
Any items not noted by (S) are a photograph only.
SHOWROOM ALBUM: used by dealer in his showroom - not available to the
general public. These are large in format, with heavy padded covers. A Showroom
Album will contain pictures of all models, along with much information on
features, accessories, options, specifications, etc. It goes into much greater
detail than the catalog distributed to the public. If "colors and upholstery" is
noted, this will contain color chips and upholstery swatches, but no cars will be
shown. Other types will be listed and should be self explanatory.
SALESMAN'S DATA BOOK: for use by salesmen in dealership, usually hardbound,
containing many pages of photos, complete mechanical specifications, all options,
features, accessories, body details, etc.
SHOWROOM POSTER: for use by dealer only in showroom - not available to
general public. Further explanation will be found on list.
OWNER'S MANUAL: this is the booklet that comes with all new cars and is kept
in the glovebox. It contains much useful information, such as maintenance and
complete operation of the car.
SHOP MANUAL: includes complete repair information, fully illustrated.
Sections covered include engine, transmission, electrical, lubrication, etc.
PARTS BOOK: can cover body or chassis or both. All body and chassis parts
are fully illustrated, described, and includes factory part numbers. Some parts

I've found most of these articles invaluable for reference photos
