7. For Me - For You
Along the way of any restoration, you need things and you maybe collect things you don't need. Here are my lists. Tell Me what you have or want.
Things I Need
These are things from the factory options list that I would like to get for completeness that I can't get from any of the parts houses.
- Early-Series Overdrive Stalk Switch. I have a late Series, NOS in box, for trade. I want one of the straight stalks.
- Series II Visors. Even a frame would be OK. These visors differ from those in later Series, each side riding on a single rod projected from the base of the rear-view mirror.
- Clock. OK, so they're hard to find and not very reliable. I already have a wristwatch for accurate time. I just want one for completeness.
- Ammeter. Right now I have a generator, but I plan to get an alternator once the Tomato is rebuilt. That's supposed to matter.
- Under-Bonnet Lamp. Something suitably period, with a switch right on the lamp if possible.
- Map Holder. The plastic pocket that was meant to sit on the driver's side of the firewall.
- Soft-top Cant Rails. Or possibly, a proper Soft-Top Frame.
- Original Horns.
- Toolkit/Jack. Not that I would use them, but for completeness.
- Front Valance crank-hole plate.
- Chrome Eyebrow (above the front grill). Mine's dented on the crown.
- Front Number Plate. The plate that goes on the front valance to hide the hole for the starter handle.
- Door Threshold Plates. Not the triangles, but the crimped strips that capped the threshold and kept the carpet down.
- Period Magazines or Brochures.
Things I Don't Need
These are things that were on the Tomato that don't belong, from the Parts Car that I don't want or need, or bought along the way and found to be unsuitable. They are all used. The list isn't complete and I have a small pile of other stuff to sort through once the Tomato is on the road.
- Late-Series Overdrive Stalk Switch. I have a late Series, NOS in box, for trade for an early Series model. It's the one with the bend, not the straight stalk.
- 5½" Brake Servo. Got it from someone cleaning out their garage. Claimed to be working by the seller. $50.
- Early-series non-OD Gearbox. Got it with the Parts Car, don't know if or how it works.
- 1492cc Rapier Engine. It was in the Parts Car, and appears to be in good shape, still with STD pistons. The oilpan is damaged. Has a canister oil filter.
